02 · Author

I write about those who cross bordersand what remains.

Cities also remember what their inhabitants try to forget.

Amin Hammani is an Italian-Moroccan writer of historical and contemporary fiction, with a particular interest in belonging, memory, power and identity.

In his novels, history enters rooms, neighbourhoods and relationships. The past is not a backdrop: it is where people search for a language in which to name themselves.

His work grows from the meeting of Italian culture and Moroccan roots, moving continuously between languages and memories. Italian is the primary language of his fiction; French and English widen its conversation.
